KJV, NKJV, NIV, and NASB are chosen in the header. This panel is only for a licensed API.Bible key. KJV does not need one. NKJV, NIV, and NASB 2020 use the same key.
The reliable way locally is a key file, not this panel. Put your API key in a one-line file named nkjv-key.txt in the project folder, then run python tools/serve.py and open the URL it prints.
You can also paste a key here. That talks to API.Bible from the browser and often fails, which is why Settings looked like it did nothing.
